Overview

In the 70 years since it founding, the State Symphony Orchestra of Russia has established a high standard of excellence and has continued the great concert traditions of the late 19th century. In 1956, the Orchestra became the first independent symphony orchestra to present the musical arts of the Soviet Union to the world. It first came to America in 1969, performing at Madison Square Garden, and since then has been internationally recognized as one of the great symphony orchestras.

Denis Matsuev, winner of the 1998 Tchaikovsky Piano Competition, has appeared throughout the U.S. with the Bolshoi, Russian State and Russian National Orchestras to critical acclaim, and during his last appearance at our Worcester Music Festival, received rave reviews. We welcome him back.

Program

  • Tchaikovsky - Excerpts from “Seasons” arr. Gauk
  • Rachmaninoff - Piano Concerto No 3. D Minor Op. 30
  • Tchaikovsky - Fantasy Overture Romeo & Juliet
